In wire erosion, also known as spark erosion, a <strong>thin wire<\/strong> is used as an electrode to separate material from the workpiece <strong>very precisely<\/strong>. The <strong>dimensional accuracy<\/strong> of wire EDM is up to <strong>\u00b1<\/strong>  <\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size );\"><strong>0.002 mm<\/strong>. The maximum dimensions of the materials are 250 mm by 350 mm with a maximum <strong>height<\/strong> of <strong>200 mm<\/strong>. It enables the cutting of <strong>conductive materials<\/strong> such as metal using <strong>electrical voltage pulses<\/strong>. A wire, usually made of brass or copper, is guided to the workpiece to be machined under electrical voltage. The workpiece is placed in a <strong>liquid dielectric<\/strong> containing deionized water. The acceleration of the electrically charged particles generates a<strong> visible spark<\/strong> that <strong>removes<\/strong> the material.      <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wire EDM is used, for example, in the production of stamping tools and <strong>complex metal parts<\/strong>. The machining of precision parts for the aerospace industry and in medical technology are also among the areas of application. Due to its <strong>precision<\/strong> and <strong>versatility<\/strong>, <strong>wire EDM<\/strong> is suitable for the production of prototypes and small series.  <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In contrast to laser fineblanking, wire EDM works differently and is based on the <strong>controlled electrical discharge<\/strong> between the wire and the workpiece.
